Scanning students in and out
How to run a gate at 7am without a queue building up.
Sign in on the phone at the gate. The scanner opens straight away — you are not asked which gate you are on, and there are no shifts to start. Several gatekeepers can scan the same gate at the same time.
The four answers
- Green and a chime — let them in. The card is valid and they are expected.
- Amber — let them in. They are late, and it is recorded as late rather than as a normal arrival.
- Red — stop. The card is not from this school, or the person has been deactivated.
- No card — use Find a person, search by name or student ID, and let them in by hand.
You do not need to read the screen. The colour and the sound are the whole message, which is what keeps the queue moving.
Going home is the same scan. GatePass works out whether this is an arrival or a departure from the time of day and the person’s last scan — there is no button to switch.
