The network is down
What still works, what to watch for, and the ten-minute limit.
Keep scanning. The phone holds its own copy of your school’s roll, so cards are still checked and students are still let in exactly as before. The screen tells you it is offline; it does not ask you to wait.
When the connection comes back, everything syncs with the times the scans actually happened. A 7:42am arrival is recorded as 7:42am, not as the time the network returned.
The ten-minute limit
A phone will keep scanning offline for up to ten minutes. Past that it stops, on purpose — beyond ten minutes a phone’s copy of the roll is too far behind to be trusted, and a student who was deactivated this morning could be let in.
Parents are not notified until the phone syncs. If you were offline for six minutes, those parents hear six minutes late — nothing is lost.
