7 Ways Schools Can Improve Communication With Parents
Parents rarely complain that a school says too little. They complain that it says things late, in the wrong place, or in words they did not expect.
1. Tell parents the facts they care about, the moment they happen
Arrival, departure, sent home. These are the three facts every parent wants the same day. Automate them from the gate so they are never forgotten on a busy morning.
2. Use one channel, and say which one
When notices arrive by WhatsApp group, a note in the bag and a phone call, parents miss things and blame the school. Pick one official channel and tell every family, in writing, that this is where school information lives.
3. Write like a person
A notice that says "Parents are hereby informed that the institution shall close" reads like a court summons. "School closes at 12 on Friday for the sports day" reads like a school. Short sentences, the date, the time, and what the parent should do.

6. Be calm on bad days
When a child is unwell or has not arrived, the first message sets the tone. Say what happened, what the school is doing, and who to speak to. Never guess, never blame.
